What is it about?

This study examines how different tillage practices and soil fertility amendments change the susceptibility of soil to erosion in a maize field in Ghana. The researchers compared no till, minimum tillage, conventional tillage and natural grassland, together with different fertilizer and poultry manure treatments, over five cropping cycles. The results showed that soil erodibility changed with management practices and was strongly influenced by soil texture, organic matter and water movement through the soil. Poultry manure reduced erosion susceptibility, while NPK fertilizer alone was associated with higher erodibility. The study also identified simple soil properties that could help estimate erosion risk.
