What is it about?

This study explores how Arab national security is likely to change over the next decade. It examines the major forces that will shape security between 2025 and 2035, including political stability, economic development, military preparedness, social cohesion, climate change, new technologies, and shifting global power. The research is based on interviews with 112 security and policy experts from across the Arab region. It finds that weak regional cooperation and economic challenges make it harder for Arab countries to respond effectively to shared security threats. The study also suggests that foreign intervention, domestic instability, and rapid technological change will continue to reshape the region. The article proposes practical ways to strengthen Arab security, including closer regional cooperation, greater investment in advanced technologies, better intelligence sharing, and a more coordinated approach to common challenges.

Why is it important?

The Arab world faces a rapidly changing security environment that no country can address alone. This study provides a forward-looking roadmap for governments, researchers, and policymakers by identifying the main risks and opportunities likely to shape the region by 2035. It highlights why stronger cooperation and a shared security vision are essential for building a safer, more stable, and more resilient Arab region.

Perspectives

This research reflects my belief that Arab security should move beyond narrow national approaches toward a more cooperative and integrated regional framework. In an era shaped by climate change, technological transformation, and geopolitical competition, lasting security depends on collective action, strategic planning, and shared responsibility. I hope this study encourages policymakers to think beyond short-term crises and work toward building a single, resilient Arab security space for the future.
