What is it about?
Linguistic studies from discursive perspective emphasize the concept of semantic autonomy and deny the realist notion of language. They argue that knowledge of social meaning and the effects of language are important to understanding a text. For Michel Pêcheux, in a speech, the meaning of word scan be explained by the interrelationship between words, more specifically, by the words that were not said. Meaning is thought of as symbolic, neither fixed nor exact. But Eric Donald Hirsch argued that the text means what its author meant, and therefore the reader's aim is to retrieve the author's intended meaning. Only authorial intent can validate an interpretation.

Why is it important?
From the set who diverging points of view, some questions emerged, such as, for example, is language a neutral means of reflecting the world? Is a meaning by public consensus possible? Is textual meaning a matter of conscience or words? And more, can the reader benefit from an interpretive perspective that goes beyond the grammatical boundary? These are the questions that this work intends to explore.
Perspectives
Discursively oriented language theories radically rethought the idea of meaning and revised the concepts of author and reader. The author's influence was minimized and the text was thought of as a cultural object produced from certain historical conditionings. Language is no longer thought of as something transparent. But this revolution that went beyond the limits of language as a system of signs was faced by the argument in favor of an objective reading of the text. In general, we can say that Pêcheux sought to emphasize the invisible mechanisms of an utterance, while Hirsch focused on explaining its visible parts. Undeniably two very important contributions to the study of language, although they differ from each other. However, the thesis defending this research is that these two points of view can be complementary in the interpretation of a text: “on the one hand, one can analyze the syntactic and semantic elements responsible for the production of meaning; on the other hand, discourse can be understood as a cultural object, produced from certain historical conditions, in a dialogical relationship with other texts".
