What is it about?

This editorial introduces the purpose and orientation of the new interdisciplinary open access journal "HARM - Journal of Hostility, Anger, Repression and Malice". It emphasizes the goal of expanding established violence and trauma research to include perspectives from non-scientific fields such as literature, film and art, thereby contributing to the critical analysis of established concepts and methods.

Why is it important?

Until recently, the study of violence has been primarily concerned with issues and examples of violence such as wars, mass killings, genocides, rape, and other primarily aggressive physical assaults. This has led to a lack of analysis of other aspects of violence that often precede major outbreaks of violence and are therefore an important part of their genesis. The journal HARM aims to address this research deficit and to contribute to a more refined understanding of violence and related phenomena.
