What is it about?
Climate change has brought about increased incidences of tropical cyclones and often of greater intensity. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) practices for adapting with cyclones in some key locations e.g., Bangladesh and the eastern coast of India, have significantly brought down loss of life due to these occurrences along with protection of livelihoods and infrastructure in contrast with what has been in previous scenarios. While DRR practices have been largely effective in many instances, some of them, do not work as desired because of physical and managerial limitations and socio-cultural or economic reasons. DRR practices need to be intertwined with the overall social construct of the cultures they serve as well as being sustainable in the long term.
