What is it about?

This book presents a new approach to doing psychotherapy which emphasizes the healing power of respect used as a therapeutic framework. Beginning with the therapeutic relationship establishing a safe, respectful environment for the client allows for the process to build on the client's experience of being respected to increase self respect and relational respect for others.

Why is it important?

This hew approach expands the significance of the therapeutic relationship and process to include and focus on the under-studied concept of deep, genuine respect as a primary agent of change. In addition to empathy, showing genuine respect to our clients opens the door for real and lasting change in our clients lives.

Perspectives

I bring my 42 year career as a therapist and personal life experience as a woman with a disability as testament to the vital importance of the seldom referenced concept of respect within our field.
