Application of a Commercial Salmonella Real-Time PCR Assay for the Detection and Quantitation of Salmonella enterica in Poultry Ceca

What is it about?

Rapid microbiological methods should be evaluated for specific matrix applications. Our work evaluated the diagnostic performance and application of a commercially available PCR platform for detection of Salmonella enterica in poultry ceca, an important poultry associated pre-harvest food safety sample matrix. Pre-enrichment broths were also comparatively evaluated in addition to the novel quantitative application of the PCR assay for estimating Salmonella numbers.
