What is it about?
Listeria monocytogenes is an important foodborne pathogen that is present throughout the fresh apple growing, harvesting, storing, and packing processes. Additionally, the storage environment can support the growth of postharvest decay organisms that may enhance the survival of L. monocytogenes. Since apples can be stored for up to one year before packing and consumption, it is important to understand how postharvest fungal decay organisms affect food safety risks during the storage period.
