What is it about?

Urban flooding causes serious socioeconomic damages in Abidjan. However, due to the lack of adequate sanitation and housing infrastructures, populations in poor areas are the most affected. This study assesses the population perception of the main issues around flooding, and the socioeconomic impact of flood-related damage in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Why is it important?

Perception of urban residents showed that displacement of affected populations and material damage are the two main impacts of flood on urban residents. Residents lack adequate prevention strategies and effective mechanisms of coping with the damage inflicted.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it shows that there is no border in writing an article. Co-authors were scartered all over the world in different institution. However, they participated actively to give value to the article. The article also showed how mismanagement of urban flooding can lead to dislocation of families.
