What is it about?

Brucellosis is disease of livestock but transmitted to humans through occupational activities and consumption of raw milk and raw milk products. Understanding the disease dynamics in livestock will help to control the disease in animals with ultimate control in humans. This study shows the disease is prevalent in all East African countries. Concerted efforts are needed to carried out interventions

Why is it important?

This study generate data that will inform policy so as to develop appropriate control strategies in the region. Also awareness of the disease in humans is important for prevention purposes at community level.

Perspectives

This article considers one of the neglected zoonoses in the East African region that requires attention from both livestock and human health.
