What is it about?

This article considers hermeneutics for Islamic scripture that are useful from an Islamic feminist perspective. In the main, it uses a combination of the interpretative methods of Fazlur Rahman and of Paul Ricouer and applies them to interpretation of the Qur'an and hadith literature.

Why is it important?

The use of both Rahman and Ricouer in the effort to interpret Islamic scripture is innovative. Viewing these scriptures through a feminist lens with these interpretative methods is even more so.
