What is it about?
Our latest authored retrospective study ( Eurasian J Emerg Med. 2020;19(1): 10-5) reported that therapeutic drugs (68%) were the most common cause of acute poisoning in Egypt. Paracetamol, nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and sedatives/hypnotics were the most common drugs causing medicinal poisoning. The majority of poisonings is intentional poisoning in female adults indicating that the female is exposed to more stress or strain as compared with males.. Accidental drug agents poisoning in children younger than 4 years represented 20% of the medicinal poisoning cases.

Why is it important?
An important concern should be raised towards availability of prescription medications at homes within the reach of children. The risk factors of poisoning are female gender and young age.
Perspectives
I hope that this article which identify the specific therapeutic drugs most frequently responsible for the acute medicinal poisoning, is interesting to take up appropriate preventive efforts and an important concern raised towards availability of prescription medications at homes within the reach of children.
