What is it about?

This paper describes the development and initial tests of an ozone oxidation system to consume organic wastes with high destruction removal efficiency. The products of the low temperature (~130C) reaction are carbon dioxide and water.

Why is it important?

Solid wastes onboard the International Space Station are sealed in plastic bags and stored until disposal via a crew resupply vehicle. Methods are needed to efficiently safen and eliminate these wastes.
