What is it about?
In the delicate and dynamic context of lagoon ecosystems, the collection and development of policy from the minutest knowledge, often referred to as nanoknowledge, is not only important but essential for achieving effective, sustainable, and context-sensitive governance. The smallest unit of ecological and local local knowledge, which is shaped by interactions with our natural environment, lived experiences, observations, and traditions, plays a vital role in developing policies that are both relevant and responsive. It is essential to acknowledge this knowledge as trends in science and technology increasingly focus on replicating experiments to maintain standards, measurements, and protocols that drive drive innovation. By integrating this rich and valuable nano-ecological knowledge into the scientific process, we can create solutions that are not only innovative but also also considerate of the unique environmental contexts of the resources involved. This This approach fosters a more holistic understanding that can enhance both scientific advancement and environmental sustainability. The unsustainable nature of current governance has contributed to the degradation of coastal lagoon ecosystems, which poses significant environmental and socio-economic challenges, particularly in regions where human activities intersect with fragile aquatic environments. This study explores the integration of fundamental or nano socio-ecological knowledge with existing governmental systems to promote using multidisciplinary approach for sustainable water resource governance. Why is it important?
Critical knowledge for the formulation of water policy has been observed as a challenge in the implementation of a sustainable water policy. Despite the fact that every country or community of the world recognises that the support, ideas, thoughts, or institutions structured from the context of a water resources help with the sustainable use of resources, such nano knowledge is disregarded. Currently, the overexploitation of water resources is causing deterioration of natural water resources. There are several reports and articles that ascertain the level of pollution, but most of these studies have not linked the degradation of water and associated resources to uncontrolled human activities due to changes in environmental and societal values. The paper therefore asserts that uncontrolled human activities for excursive wealth, due to the loss of vital nano knowledge, have been observed as the canker eating deeper into societal values that supported the sustainable use and control of water resources. It also emphasises the situation where spirituality plays a significant role in sustaining rules, regulations, and taboos related to natural environmental conservation
Perspectives
Understanding the lagoon water systems is crucial for addressing contemporary environmental challenges, including water resource management, pollution mitigation, and ecosystem conservation, it also underscores the importance of sustainable practices to preserve aquatic environments for future generations. Therefore, it is advised that the government, community residents, and traditional leaders coordinate their efforts to lessen the overexploitation of the lagoon and its aquatic life due to the current environmental degradation issues. Furthermore, a deep understanding of Lagoon Nano can also inform sustainable governance practices. Policies and regulations can be crafted based on scientific evidence about the nano-scale processes occurring in the lagoon, ensuring that management decisions are not only effective but also socially, and environmentally friendly as well as sustainable in the long run. By considering the perspectives and experiences of both men and women, policymakers can develop more inclusive and effective strategies. Additionally, women's concerns about water quality and availability may differ from those of men, leading to unique policy recommendations. Policies and regulations can be crafted based on scientific evidence on the nano-scale processes occurring in the lagoon and the community, ensuring that management decisions are not only effective but also socially, and environmentally friendly as well as sustainable in the long run.
