What is it about?

The use of social networks and the internet are well-established tools in education that may strengthen the learning process and enhance professional development. The findings of this literature review demonstrate that although social media represents an important source of medical information that is widely used in education and in everyday lives, no studies have reported that it has a significant impact in enhancing the learning process.

Why is it important?

The findings may be of importance if there was substantial evidence in the literature on medical education demonstrating the benefits of using social networks to enhance the learning process, as measured by students’ performance on examinations. The findings do not support that this was the case. Further studies are needed.

Perspectives

Further studies in the modern time of artificial intelligence are warranted.
