What is it about?
The object of this study is to analyze the new digital platforms for reading press used by students of the School of Humanities at Porto University. For that reason, an online survey of 17 questions long is distributed to 271 students. In this way, the relevant factors that move students to read digital press via different platforms are: comfort, adaptability, availability, etc. Also, we will try to observe which is the profile of the digital press reader, paying attention to aspects like gender, education, age, etc. The devices used to decode information: computers, laptops, ereaders, tablet, etc. Everything is done from the perspective of Spanish researchers, which is something that provides objectivity to the study.

Why is it important?
There are no national surveys in Portugal about reading habits since 2004, so this paper is a way of giving a modest approach about the topic.
Perspectives
In this publication the results of a survey developed in Porto (Portugal) for freshmen students of Library and Information Science from the School of Humanities of Porto University. In was done in the frame of the project 'Nuevas formas de lectura de prensa digital en Portugal' developed during the postdoctoral stay thanks to the scholarship “Becas Iberoamérica Santander Investigación. Santander Investigación 2016-2017- España” from Banco Santander. It's a different methodology from the ones done in other publications such as: focus groups, public discourses analysis, etc.
