Why is it important?
it was developed by professor Jennet and Mr Teasdale in 1974 and a paper was published in Lancet on the assessment of coma and impaired consciousness. This was the real breakthrough in a scientific method for assessing the level of consciousness. Now it is used in hospitals all over the world to assess the severity of brain injuries. It is a global lifesaver and is the basis for much research. This work has also contributed to the prognostication of head injury patients.
