What is it about?
After receiving stem cell transplantation, the host response to foreign antigens is mediated through cytokines. Some cytokines are pro and some are protective from graft vs. host disease. The balance between both parties determines the risk to develop GVHD

Why is it important?
GVHD is the most serious complication of stem cell transplantation largely jeopardizing its therapeutic potential.
Perspectives
The potential of predicting the occurrence or severity of GVHD would have great clinical impact and would appreciably improve the outcome of stem cell transplantation
