What is it about?
It is now recognized and appreciated that hepatic OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 not only serve as drug transporters (e.g., statins, etc.), but also mediate the clearance and disposition of various circulating endogenous compounds such as CP-I and CP-III. Therefore, it is possible to leverage CP-I and CP-III as surrogate OATP substrates to assess genotype-phenotype correlations and study DDIs without having to dose probe drugs.
