What is it about?

For some people, it is hard to talk about financial issues with their partner. In this study, we show that especially people with a more anxious attachment style are uncomfortable bringing up money. People with a more anxious attachment style tend to be more afraid of losing their partner and are more stressed out by conflict than people with a less anxious attachment style.

Why is it important?

If a couple does not talk about financial issues they are more at risk of financial problems. If you are aware of your attachment style and you know that you tend to avoid talking about money you can work on that and search for tools to help you. Ideally, financial advice is combined relationship advice when helping a couple with their financial problems.

Perspectives

I like this paper because it brings together relationship science and finance, two fields that are seldomly combined.
