What is it about?
Glycosaminoglycans are sugars which can regulate cells and direct them to undertake tissue replenishment which encourages repair of wounds and replenishment of tissues in disease

Why is it important?
Glycosaminoglycans are ancient molecules which evolved in invertebrate evolution 500 million years ago . Nature has developed these as cell regulatory molecules which can promote repair of wounds.
Perspectives
The sophistication and performance of glycosaminoglycans as cell regulatory mediators which promote tissue homeostasis is under appreciated.
