What is it about?

This monograph describes the use of expert sytems especially as models for cognition in anthropological systems but more generally in sociology and other behavioral and social sciences. The focus of the book is on rule-based systems applied both from the bottom-up and top-down. The former simulates human cognition, the latter is often more efficient for providing assistance.

Why is it important?

The monograph provides a variety of examples of the use of expert systems, especially in anthropology and sociology but more generally, to any areas where rule-based models are appropriate.

Perspectives

Working with a sociologist (Brent) and a linguist/anthropologist (Furbee) provided us with a wide variety of perspectives on rule-based heuristic systems.
