What is it about?

Ethnographic research is exciting and challenging - reading about it in academic books or articles can give you only so much insight. I reveal my experiences, challenges and solutions applied to researching creative industries. I compare two studies conducted in the UK.

Why is it important?

Ethnography is an important research method that brings research and the researcher alive. Having a touchable experience through a video interview allows me to share my learning and insights on the journey towards becoming a socio-material researcher, that will hopefully inspire other researchers, early - career and later. Academic references complete the picture on how to get published with this type of research, listed at the end of the video.

Perspectives

Having been invited to do this video felt great and exciting. It was a great pleasure to be able to talk in-depths about conducting ethnographic research. The SAGE team was amazing in creating a professional yet relaxed atmosphere for the interview with great questions unlocking insights I had not written about yet. This kind of research is important for the relevance / rigour debate in which we discuss the validity of micro-level research for gaining knowledge. Findings from this kind of research are relevant for entrepreneurs and policy makers.I hope you find this video inspiring to do your own ethnographic research.
