What is it about?

The present study was aimed to correlate the measurements between the horizontal visible right and left iris diameter with the mesiodistal width of the right and left maxillary central incisor at the incisal edge, middle third, and cervical third, respectively.

Why is it important?

The present study determined a positive correlation between the horizontal visible iris diameter and the maxillary central incisor width. The correlation between the mesiodistal width of the central incisor and horizontal visible iris diameter of female participants was higher than that of male participants. The middle third edge has a higher correlation compared with the cervical third and incisal third for all participants. A strong positive statistical correlation between the two variables of the mesiodistal width of the maxillary central incisor and horizontal visible iris diameter has been found. Whereas, clinically no specific and definitive relation was found between the 2 variables. The study found that horizontal visible iris diameter has a positive correlation with the mesiodistal width of the maxillary central incisor and can be a useful tool in the absence of other records as the iris dimensions remain unaltered with age.

Perspectives

A positive Pearson correlation was found between the mesiodistal width of the central incisor and horizontal visible iris diameter The correlation was higher in women than in men. The middle third had a higher correlation than the cervical third and incisal edge for all participants A positive correlation found between the 2 variables of the mesiodistal width of the maxillary central incisor and horizontal visible iris diameter.
