What is it about?

This article shows that if age of the patient is not entered, the MAC monitored is significantly different and wrong. Importance of MACage monitoring

Why is it important?

Improper MAC monitoring may risk the patient by under dosing or waste inhalational anaesthetics

Perspectives

Monitoring depth of anaesthesia / inhaled anaesthesia depth (MAC) is now regarded as standard by Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland. The MAC monitoring is also at present widely available in Multiparameter anaesthesia monitors. However, to monitor MAC specific to the patient, the age of the patient needs to be fed in the monitor, else wrong monitoring / values can even make the patient exposed to under or over dose of inhaled anaesthetics. This paper shows this important aspect
