Perspectives

We are a long time past the original IOM study and patient safety metrics have yet to improve significantly. Numerous studies and authors suggest that improved communication and team effectiveness are crucial for improving patient safety. This suggests that a new approach to improved clinical communication and improved interpersonal abilities may be important in improving patient safety in the US.
