What is it about?

Substance use among slum adolescents is a burning issue. Peer pressure was the most common reason for initiation of substance use and shops are the main source of procuring substances.

Why is it important?

Among the substance users, we found gutkha as the commonest product used and the age at initiation was quite early. As the leading cause of initiation was peer pressure, their counselling is an important intervention in preventing it.
