What is it about?

This paper aims to answer the following question: Ate noise levels acceptable in Hong Kong?

Why is it important?

Governments all over the world (including Hong Kong) have enacted environmental noise directives and noise control ordinances/acts to protect tranquility in residential areas. However, there is a lack of literature on the evaluation of whether the Acceptable Noise Levels (ANLs) stipulated in the directive/ordinance/act are actually achievable. The study critically evaluated the situations in Hong Kong.

Perspectives

The so-called Acceptable Noise Levels have been defined years ago. But, how realistic are those levels? Shall we uphold these criteria by having better noise management plan and policy?
