Why is it important?

The role of tissue eosinophils in the development of a tumor is not completely understood. The present study was an attempt to elucidate the potential role of tissue eosinophils in oral leukoplakia, a potentially malignant lesion. Our study has shown that tissue eosinophil count may be used as an adjunct to predict the malignant transformation of dysplastic cases of oral leukoplakia.

Perspectives

This original study has added a new dimension to our curiosity in understanding the malignant transformation of an oral potentially malignant disorder. Also, this reseach has opened many gateways to unfold the prevailing controversy on the role of tissue eosinophils in the development of oral cancer.
