Inhaled steroids are very often used in the treatment of asthma. Steroids if taken orally for long duration will increase the blood glucose levels. This paper studies , whether increasing the dose of inhaled steroid will alter the glucose and lipid levels in children

Why is it important?
This study was done in children who were taking inhaled steroids . We found that increasing the daily dose of inhaled steroid to 400 micrograms per day does not significantly alter the glycosylated hemoglobin levels or lipid profile.
Perspectives
In small children if their asthma is not well controlled with low dose inhaled steroids, the physician usually increases the dose to 400 micrograms per day before adding other medications. The study states that effects of steroids on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism are similar in this dose, when coma red to a lower dose
