What is it about?

The most talked about frenulum in Orthodontics is the labial frenum and its association with midline diastema. The lingual frenulum and its association to malocclusion has hardly received any recognition. This study provides an insight to the association of the lingual frenulum and various malocclusion traits.

Why is it important?

This study is important for diagnosis of the malocclusion. The ignorance of the lingual frenulum could possibly lead to a relapse.

Perspectives

The lingual frenulum has not been explored as being causative in malocclusion. The frenulum has been studied in infants and young children. Our observation has been recorded in this paper and further studies in this area could shed more light on the role of the lingual frenulum with malocclusion.
