What is it about?

Retinoblastoma, the most common primary malignant intraocular tumour of childhood.Differentiated retinoblastoma is commonly seen in younger age group. Nearly hundred years now, we have been seeing two typical true rosettes in retinoblastoma in the form of Flexner Wintersteiner and Homer Wright rosettes and in many occasion, fleurettes was documented.A new type of rosette was discovered in retinoblastoma with anterior chamber invasion.

Why is it important?

Histopathologically, varying degrees of retinal differentiation occur in retinoblastoma and tumours are also seen in the form of well differentiated rosettes and fleurettes. Newly discovered evolving rosettes have been found to be associated with histopathological high risk factors marking its significance of conversion of differentiated tumours into undifferentiated one, thus, making the newly discovered rosette, a bad prognostic marker.
