Why is it important?

Noninfectious adverse transfusion reaction (NIATRs) such as acute hemolytic transfusion reactions, FNHTRs, anaphylactic reactions, TRALI, and allergic reactions are recognized as predominant contributing factors of transfusion‐related morbidity and mortality. Hemovigilance is an avenue to analyze blood transfusion incidents, a tool to measure the effects of new processes or corrective actions implemented to remedy their causes and prevent their recurrence.
