Why is it important?

The study uncovered three significant findings. Firstly, it highlighted the presence of a considerable lack of harmony in the legislative and regulatory aspects pertaining to health record management within South Africa's public health sector. This dissonance poses a challenge and needs to be addressed promptly. Secondly, comprehending the intricate interplay between diverse legal frameworks and regulations governing the country's public health sector is an essential initial step; however, it merely marks the beginning of this complex process. Lastly, there are valuable insights that can be gleaned from other countries like the United Kingdom which have successfully tackled similar legislative and regulatory hurdles related to healthcare record management.

Perspectives

Improving the quality of healthcare delivery necessitates efficient and effective functioning of health systems. An important aspect contributing to the efficiency of these systems is the management of records, which unfortunately tend to be poorly administered. Enhancing record management practices must acknowledge that records are produced within an organizational context and are subject to a national legislative and regulatory framework.
