What is it about?

It challenges subtle marginalisation of people with disability through the use of language that is often left to adopt the status of a grand narrative. People with disability is marginalising and disenfranchising in its meaning. It is for this reason that we propose a word that is more empowering and less marginalising.

Why is it important?

The article uses the local indigenous framework to interrogate the use and application of the word disability in the context of Lesotho and other sesotho speaking communities in Southern Africa.

Perspectives

The article uses both the proverbial adage of Bitso-lebe-ke seromo and Binary opposites to challenge the enduring and marginalising status of the word disability.
