Why is it important?
Operations Management is the discipline for design, direction, planning and control of a production system
Perspectives
Recent experience shows that Latin American companies, and especially small and medium-sized ones, find that its necessary integration into production and distribution systems with global coverage, it requires changes (often radical) in its methods of operation. Latin American companies need to learn the methods of operation, and the techniques available to improve the competitiveness of companies, and match them with its foreign counterparts, these companies have to introduce the required changes in this new environment of competition. local within global production or distribution systems, or at least regional (within schemes of trade agreements such as the European Economic Community, Mercosur, or the Free Treaties Commerce of America). As a consequence of these changes in the world economy, the scope of competition of companies have undergone radical changes: from competing in environments with a high level of controls and Protectionism by the State, has begun to compete in environments with a high degree of openness.
