What is it about?

During drilling in the subsurface pressure transgression zones causes a pressures surge. If drilling mud is not capable of capping the flowing zone, a hard kick followed by a blowout can take place. The well known Deepwater Horizon tragedy was a result of pressure surge turn to blowout.

Why is it important?

It is important to know in advance the potentials of possible subsurface kicks exploring for oil and gas.

Perspectives

This article deals with the geological blocks that causes kicks. The diagnostic methods from seismic semblances , seismic velocity before drilling and during drilling are exhibited in this article.
