What is it about?

The relaxor ferroelectrics are important class of materials useful for various technologies including piezoelectric a, gas sensors, memory based applications and optoelectronic devices. The review presents an updated and state of the art theoretical concepts to understand the mechanism and properties of lead based relaxor. Some of the important lead free relaxor materials are also discussed in full detail and the difference in he mechanism governing the non ergodic transition to relaxor state in these environmentalfriendly alternative material is also discussed so as to provide researchers to further develop newer materials. Some of the new leadfreematerials having relaxor properties based on author's own work are also included. The use of dielectric relaxation phenomena are discussed in understanding the molecular relaxation using impedance spectroscopy.

Why is it important?

The review will be very helpful in understanding clearly the subtle details of relaxor and provides directions to move ahead environment friendly relaxor material to develop non toxic alternates of presently lead based materials such as PMN-PT, POST.

Perspectives

We believe that this critical review on important relaxor material I'll pave the way to furthering research on the important group of materials.
