What is it about?
As a new joining technology, a fiber laser heat source is empolyed to join between Zircaloy and SiC/SiC composite tubes where the titanium powder is inserted between two tubes as a binder. By controlling the insert method, a good joints can be produced.

Why is it important?
We have developed a new joining method between metal and ceramic tubes directly by using a fiber laser, and the joinability of two tubes can be contolled by the insertion method of a binder.
Perspectives
By finding an appropriate insertion method, Zircaloy and SiC/SiC composite tubes can be successively joined not only mechanically but also airtightly.
