What is it about?
Hydrides are precipitates that can spontaneouly nucleate and grow in titanium, zirconium and their alloys, due to the fast diffusion of hydrogen in theses materials for applications in biomaterilas and inthe nuclear industry, respectively. Hydrides have the bad reputation of causing embrittlement at the origin of cracks and failure. We study the mechanisms and energies involved in the hydrides dissolution and precipitation as well as microstructural transformations using mainly DSC and electron microscopy.
