What is it about?

Use of reduced order modeling- ROM (Craig Bampton - Component Mode Synthesis) technique to evaluate stress intensity (SIF) for a structure under high frequency forced excitation.

Why is it important?

Industrial application of finite element method demands a high number of meshes for realistic structural analysis. But the high number of meshes needs huge calculation power for simulation, hence reducing the size of the problem (DOFs) is inevitable. In this article, we applied the reduced order modeling in fracture mechanics which is new in fracture mechanics field.

Perspectives

Appling ROM concept in fracture mechanics is an innovation. The method used here originally belongs to the turbomachinery. The potential application of this method in turbomachinery is very high.
