What is it about?
Sandwich structures are susceptible to impact loading. To improve the impact behaviour pins are inserted in foam core sandwich. An impact model has been successfully developed and the impact response of the pin-reinforced foam core sandwich was correctly predicted.

Why is it important?
In this work a simulation model has been developed based on the building block approach. For the foam core material model homogenized material properties were used to reduce computational and modeling effort. The proposed modeling approach gives an efficient solution to reduce simulation effort and to predict the damage behaviour correctly.
