What is it about?

The use of locally available materials such as cow bones as a replacement of commercial activated carbon is necessary for research. The use of the prepared activated cow bone carbon was suitable in terms of effective treatment of pollutants and economically sustainable.

Why is it important?

Treatment of high strength waste water like palm oil mill effluent from literature is very difficult to accomplish. Researchers have difficulty achieving effective treatment of palm oil mill effluent directly from the mill (primary treatment) using locally prepared material. The use of activated cow bone powder has proven to be very efficient and cost effective. This prepared adsorbent can also be used very effectively for the treatment of heavy metals.
