Wear mechanisms of different nitrocarburised steel samples

Comparison of sliding wear mechanisms of steel samples treated with different nitrocarburizing processes/process mediums (plasma, gas and salt bath).

Why is it important?

This work shows that under dry sliding conditions salt bath nitrocarburizing provides better wear resistance and lower friction values as compared to gas- and plasma nitrocarburising due to the favourable properties of the compound layer.
