What is it about?

It is about a new incremental metal forming process used to produce tailored blanks with increasing or decreasing thickness, with sharp transition zone between different thicknesses.

Why is it important?

Welding used to produce tailored blanks leads to material discontinuity, which may create problems during forming into automotive components and during their exploitation.

Perspectives

The method can also be used for producing tailored blanks with constant thickness and varying properties, which is currently investigated.
