What is it about?
This paper explores the technological advancements utilised for marine communication and navigation in the maritime environment, with venerations to both hardware and software. This review would invariably serve as a source of information pool for further studies. We also present some current technological challenges the marine industry is antagonized with. Marine communication and navigation technologies go hand-in-hand in order to provide a safe and secure marine travel on those who are on board a vessel or a ship. These tools are used together to establish rapport between sea ports and nearby vessels, as well as determining a sea or ocean’s characteristics and weather patterns.

Why is it important?
There is the need for this research because in today’s environment, threats to commercial networks have never been superior while the price and effect of security fissures have never been more severe. In most consumer, based industries, cyberattacks have become the new norm. It has become ostensible that no matter the size of the organization, companies are not passably protected from security threats and, if anything, have become preferred targets for hackers and One area that is characteristically ignored when it comes to cyber terrorizations is the maritime industry. Based on the aforementioned backdrops, this paper seeks to bring to the limelight the various issues that pertains to marine navigation and communication as well as the implementation and advancement in maritime technological tools utilized, which in effect will enhance the maritime industry in this contemporary times.
Perspectives
The advanced maritime communication system has a lot of opportunities of enhancing facets of obligatory works for mariners, maritime administration and fishery industries, centered on various integrated technologies, such as digital radio communication, high speed network, intelligent traffic management, efficient navigation and next-generation coastal station. The numerous information available on broadband communication for on-shore to on-shore and on-shore to off-shore as made available by the facility implementing fully digital radio technology to realize the broadband communication are same as a land network facility. The various maritime information will contribute to effectively reducing workloads of mariner with an improvement in security and safety navigation.
