What is it about?

This paper shows the results of finite element modelling of contact problems between perfectly rigid indenter with rough surface and a body from elastic-plastic material. The results show the influence of the amplitude and distances of various undulations at the rough surface to response surface.

Why is it important?

The results of the work can contribute to modeling of the contact with the elastic-plastic rough surfaces without the need to model individual asperities. Correct use of the softened contact in FEM leads to reduction of computing time. Energy considerations may be useful in evaluating of the results of indentation tests.
