What is it about?

This research paper presents a study on the development of cement composites reinforced coconut fiber with fly ash addition. The result is presented in terms of compressive strength, modulus of rupture and fracture behavior. Increase in coconut fiber weight percent will decrease cement composites mechanical properties. Fracture behavior like delamination and fiber pull out is also observed in this study.

Why is it important?

Coconut fiber is one of the natural fiber particularly selected as reinforcement in the cement composites. Coconut fiber may absorbed the highest impact energy and proved to perform better than jute and sisal fibers. Fly ash is commonly used as pozzolanic admixtures in concrete and currently used to increase the workability of cement composites

Perspectives

This work has been initiated to value add natural fiber (coconut fiber) and to utilize industrial waste (fly ash) for producing cement composites with better combination of properties and predicted fracture behavior.
