Why is it important?

Zirconia based ceramics are the most preferred material used in implants such as dental crowns and bone replacement applications, due to its higher tensile strength and fracture toughness compared to other ceramic materials. Abrasive machining is the most preferred process to achieve a required surface finish and dimensional accuracy in ceramic materials. But it has been difficult and challenging to achieve a required surface finish in grinding these ceramic materials because of chipping, which limits the usage in industries.
