What is it about?
This paper is giving a method to allocate the correct number of buffers between stations in a production line to get the maximum efficiency for the line, even though the line is unbalanced. The method invented is called 6 Steps OBA (Optimal Buffer Allocation) method. The production engineer need to follow the six steps in the method and finally the correct number of buffers between stations could be identified.

Why is it important?
Six Steps OBA method is user friendly method so that non technical personnel also could use it. The management only need to decide the total number of buffers allowed in the whole production line, then the method will solve for the number of buffers to be allocated at each buffer station.
